Blog Assignment 14
1. I think that I missed the metaphor in this post because I was reading to much into the post and was looking for something that was not there. By overlooking the point of the post I missed the metaphor which if I was simply just reading the story instead of analyzing the story, I would have understood the metaphor at the time.
2. Your arm is as cold as ice, her eyes shine as bright as the stars are some of the metaphors that I have encountered.
3. I think as a future educator, I will give more examples of metaphors and explain to students that the key words to look for in a metaphor are like or as so that they will easily see them and be able to pick them out when the students come across them. I think giving examples of them will easily help students to see how they are used and when they are used the most often.
4. We use metaphors as a means of comparing 2 things using like or as. These are they key words in comparing two things that lets you know that you are using a metaphor.
Final Report on PLN
I have been working with my PLN on trying to get it better for me so that it will work with my schuedule. I have arranged all of the things that I need in there but am working on getting it to where it will work with me.
Comment for Teachers Summary Post
For my first post, I posted to Karl Fisch's blog on the post about the movie Race to Nowhere, and how this will be a very important educational film for students to watch.
For my second post to Mr. Fisch's blog on the post about replacing the horoscopes with science information to get more people to read the denver post. I agree with this idea and it will help more people to get involved in reading the paper.
Final Project
This is the final project for Alicia Robertson, Abby Jordan, and Kevin White. We did a slide show on the ABC's of educational technology. Each slide shows the letter for either a technology source or a website that we found informational. At the end of the presentation is advice from each of us to future students for this class.

For my first comment, I posted to Mr. McClung's blog under the post Just Like Riding a Bike. In this post he talked about how he had some time off because he had a student teacher. He was anxious about getting back to his class so that he could work with them again. He was very passionate about getting to work with his students again.

For my second comment, I posted to Hannah's blog.
For my third comment I posted to Mrs. Yollis blog post about family blogging month, and how she is trying to get families more involved with blogging and communicating with one another.
http://gracieonthego.blogspot.com/2011/03/my-new-mascot.html
For my final post I posted to Grace's blog post about her new mascot. In my post, I said how I have many different favorite animals, and although they do not go everywhere with me, they are still in my room.
Blog Assignment 13
http://alex.state.al.us/index.php
This website, is a tool for students and teachers to use. It has information on many different subjects with different information to use. It can also be used as just a search engine. It can be used as a workplace for teachers. It has podcast videos on many different subjects. In the podcast treasury, it shows podcasts for many different things, but also showcases certain places in Alabama such as the exploreum. This will be a useful tool for a teacher as to getting ideas for lesson plans, getting information for helping students or teachers to learn on any subject or on the subject that is being taught. The lesson plan tab can help a teacher to look up a certain lesson plan by the subject, and the grade they are teaching. It also gives other information while searching for the lesson plan that the teacher is trying to find.

Progress report on final project
Myself,Abby Jordan, and Kevin White will be getting together this week to discuss ideas on what we would like to do for the final project. We have been looking at other students projects trying to come up with ideas and will hopefully have the project started and finished by the end of this week.
Blog Assignment 12
An assignment that I would have liked to do would have been to write one or two paragraphs on why you chose to go to college.
I chose to go to college not only to help me get a chance at a better career, but to also be the first one from my family to get a college degree. Getting a college degree would be a huge accomplishment for me. I chose to go to college because I knew that I could advance myself in getting a better career when I finish college. Completing college would give me a tremendous boost of confidence in knowing that I set my goal and I was able to achieve it.

First Graders in Ms. Cassidy's Class
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvPZtTej0jQ&feature=player_embedded
All of the things mentioned by Mrs. Cassidy in the video and the skype conversation were very interesting. I think the way that they use skype in the classroom is very interesting. The way that the children are so very invested in all of what they do in the classroom I think is very good in getting the children to learn more about technology and how to use it better.

Special Assignment
1. Mr. McClung is an organized person but I think that he is also very flexible. I think he is very organized in the sense that he makes sure his posts are very easy to understand, and that he is also flexible with his schuedule has very many activities but he also keeps everything in check.
2. I think Mr. McClung is a very well educated educator. He keeps his lessons not only in the classroom but tries to relate what he is talking about with what is going on in the world.
3. I think Mr. McClung is very connected with his students. When I read these rules for his classroom, I think they are good. I think the rules will help students to be able to learn quickly and on their feet.
4. The first thing everyone needs is a dayplanner. I think this is essential to keep up with important due dates and to keep up with classwork.
5. The penalties for being late are a loss of a letter grade for every day of being late for an assignment. I think this is good in the sense that it will keep students aware of keeping up with their assignments.
6. Mr. McClung wants to accomplish with his blog, sharing of resources, and educational information. I think this is very interesting because the blog not only gives educational information, but also gives information that kids find cool.
7. I reviewed ANT and Convince Me. ANT is useful because it is a search engine. I think that this made his list because it will gave students the chance to search for anything that they have questions about. The other link that I reviewed was Convince Me. This link is helpful because it helps to review certain concepts in a debate. I think this made the list because it will help students to see all of the different sides or opionions of any argument.
8. I would not take away anything from these rules.
10. I think Mr. McClung does a wonderful job with his blog.
11. He makes his blog very useful by giving parents information about how the students are doing in his class and lots of links as to how to help.
12. There are differences in how students do their assignments and how they portray their thoughts on each assignment.
13. Mr. McClung has done a great job with his blog and the best part about it is how well organized it is.

Comments for Teachers summary post
In my first post on Paige Baggett's blog, I posted about Mr Ricky who is an artist who is blind by circumstances that happened in his life. However he uses his talents to talk to children and inspire them by showing them how he paints by using the feeling of the texture of the paint.
In my second post I posted about how music can be the voice of many emotions that anyone is feeling. Music is many times what helps me to get through bad days and to make me feel better.

Blog Assignment 10
In this post, I see that school of today was very different than the school of yesterday. I think this is all of the sense that things are changing every day in many different ways like technology, and social aspects. I do not think I would have dropped out of school, but I do understand some of his points that he made in the video.
Tom Johnson
I think this post is very interesting. I liked how the problem was resolved with the pencils. I also think that the idea of keeping the children interested in projects is very important to keep children focused on what their final projects will be.

"What I've Learned this Year"
In this post I learned many things. While in the first year of teaching, they learned many things. Be flexible is the most important thing that I got out of this post. Things are likely to change at any moment of time and with that change, you have to be willing to adapt to that change. Other things that were in this post were to listen to your students, be a good listener, and be reasonable.

SMARTBoard Presentation
This project was fun but also a challenge for me. I was glad to be able to get some experience in working with Smart boards. The challenge was learning how to work the technology. Gathering the lesson together was fun, and working with the different tools was a new learning experience that I was happy to get the chance to do.
The responses that we got from our form was that our people were wanting to teach high school, and middle school. As far as working with the smart board many responses were given as to how people were going to use the smart board in their classroom. Everyone that answered the form said that they would definitly be using the SMART board in some way in their classroom.
I learned from this survey that it is helpful to get other people's opinion about how they would be using this new piece of technology. It was helpful for me to see other people's views on using this and how they would be using this in the future.

This is how we dream
www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHvoBPjhsBA&feature=player_embedded#at=175
This video shows that people are more abiding by their laptops to use for everything such as to read books, or to compose books or articles. It shows me that soon, computers will be used for a lot of things as to now when paper and pencil are more predominately being used. Using computers for more things such as computer articles or simply just composing an extended piece of an article from a news story is what is starting to happen in many different areas in the world.
People are now wanting to share their ideas to allow many different people to access them, but to also give these people the chance to learn from one another. Sharing ideas of writing, teaching styles, and of internet programs is helping many people to share with people not only in the United States but also around the world.
I like this idea because of the way that people are getting the chance to learn many different things from many different people around the world. Allowing ideas to be shared gives people the chance to see different ideas maybe in a way that was never seen before. This is a way to learn how to allow the ideas of one person to be shared with another.

The people who are focused on the present are focused on the things that are happening now and the things that are happening around them. The people who are focused on the future are worried about what is going to happen and what will happen. I try to worry about the present and just getting through each day that comes.

Blog Assignment 7
Randy Pausch Last Lecture: Achieving Your Childhood Dreams
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji5_MqicxSo
In this lecture, Randy talks about how children's dreams change as they get older. He says that their dreams may start out as one thing and completely change to another in a matter of time. Randy says that when children start to create their dreams, that sometimes they are far out of their reach but to tell children that anything is possible and to never give up on your dreams. Any dream can be altered or changed but in the end the dream will still have the same over all goal to the child, and that will be what they want to do no matter what.
Being an imagineer is the second part of the lecture. This part summarizes that using the dreams can help to achieve any part of the dream to help the dream to become reality. If a child has a dream of creating a fashion line, then some of the first parts of achieving this dream is to see the dream on paper. Then the next step is to send the sketches out to get the ideas and designs out for other people to see. Once this part is done then, the rest will be up to the designer.
Enabling the childhood dreams of others is the third way in this lecture. He says that in this part that he will build a course called building virtual worlds. In this course he says that the students in this course, the projects are changed with the students every two weeks. He says that in changing up the people on the projects that are due every two weeks helps the children to expand their imagination and their creativity. He says that by him pushing the students to do their very best, then he got the best work that he had ever got out of the class.
On other part of his lecture was The Dream Fullfilment Factory. This is when he says that he puts students together in working in teams and putting together objects that allows more than one person to come together to allow everybody's dreams to be put together into one great project. I really enjoyed this video. It shows that even though dreams start out small, they can grow into something tremendous. Dreams are something that should never be put to the side but rather should be expanded and put into a higher level of achieving the best dream that can be made possible.

Wendy Drexler: The Networked Student
In this video it shows how people all accross the world can learn from each other by sharing information, lessons, business ideas and much more. I think this video is very interesting because to think in 5 years, how people all accross the world will be learning from each other, and how people will be learning from each other in many different ways in many different areas.
A 7th graders personal learning environment
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEls3tq5wIY
This video shows how a 7th grader has organized her learning environment so that it will be easy for her to learn and better for her to learn in any environment. She has many different tools and applications in one general area to make it better for her to learn and easier for her to share the things that she has learned. I think this is very cool because it is an easy way to learn and compatible for her to take what she has learned and to share it.
In Michael Staton's argument, he states that smartboards are very expensive, and how the old models are just the same. In Bill Ferriter's argument, he states that it did not help him in teaching the lessons to his students and how that he felt like they were just not worth using.

Langwitches
http://langwitches.org/blog/category/podcasting/
This is about learning how to write a story and the different aspects of reading a story, being an author of a story. This also talkes about some things that did not work, and some of the things that did work. This is about getting students to work on their own blogs, and how they all worked together to create not only a team but how that worked together to create a good learning project.

The Benefits of Podcasting in the Classroom
http://joedale.typepad.com/integrating_ict_into_the_/2009/04/the-benefits-of-podcasting-in-the-classroom.html
This video gives information of how podcasting can be useful in the classroom. Some of the ways that this can be helpful is for example when a student is out for whatever reason, he or she can listen to a lecture that they missed to catch up on important information. Students can use podcasts themselves to create different personalities and create different roles to help them learn in a creative way.
Some of the ways that I can use what I have watched in my own podcast is to put lots of creativity in to my podcast.

Manaiakalani Swimming Technology Water Safe Pools2Schools
This post is about PT England School not having a pool in order to teach water safety lessons. In order to help with this problem Watersafe Auckland decided to bring their pool and set it up on their netball court. This helped the students to learn water safety, how to swim, and to feel confident while being in the water.
My post said that I think this was a good idea to help kids that may have a fear of water to help overcome that and to help them learn safety tips while being in the water.
Blog Assignment 3
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGCJ46vyR9o&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Ftechliterateteacher%2Eblogspot%2Ecom%2F&feature=player_embedded
This is a very true example of how students are today. This video made me think that although sometimes school can be very hard and stressful, it will be worth it in the end when I am able to get a job that I love. . I agree with many of the things that were said in the video because it is how a college student lives in today's society.
"It's not about the technology" by Kelly Hines
http://eduratireview.com/2009/04/its-not-about-technology.html/
In today's society technology is not the only way that a teacher can teach their students. Every child is different and they all learn in very different ways.
Before 10 years ago, many of the forms of technology were not available teachers had to still use the chalkboard and students had to listen and learn. This concept should still be used today to show that even though technology is evolving, that the old ways of learning are still useful.
Karl Fisch: Is it ok to be a technologically illiterate teacher?
http://thefischbowl.blogspot.com/2007/09/is-it-okay-to-be-technologically.html
I think it is ok to be a technologically illiterate teacher with a willingness to learn. If a teacher is willing to admit that they are not up to speed with technology then they should be willing to say that they are willing to learn more.
Gary Hayes Social Media Count
http://www.personalizemedia.com/garys-social-media-count/
This shows me that every second a form of technology is just being discovered and is being used by some one in the world. This just shows me that when I become a teacher that their will be many new forms of technology that I will have to get up to speed with and become comfortable with using.
I do not think that this is a bad thing for the world, I just think that in order to do this right that every teacher must be willing to learn because technology is growing every day.
Blog Assignment 2
Did you know?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cL9Wu2kWwSY
This video made me stop and think how different technology is today, and how far that we have come. Just 2 years ago technology was very different and we did not have some of the connections that we have today. This video shows many different adaptions that we have made to technology. Some of these adaptions include how many people search google a month, to how many people have a myspace and facebook account.
Without technology being a part of today's society, many things that people try to accomplish would not be possible. Some companies now only look at people interviewing for a job through the internet. In the next 5 years it is hard to imagine where we would be without the advances made in technology every day.
Mr. Winkle Wakes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lm1sCsl2MQY
This video is about Rip Van Winkle waking up after 100 years of being asleep and waking up to a different world. He woke up to find that there was technology and people that were working on computers evolving technology. Mr. Winkle went to a school where children were listening to their teacher and taking notes. He then noticed that there was a computer that was dusty sitting in the back of the room.
Mr. Winkle thought that this was a nice way of seeing that some things did not change. This was comforting to Mr. Winkle because he thought that even though he had been asleep for 100 years some ways of life had not changed.
Sir Ken Robinson The importance of creativity
http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/ken_robinson_says_schools_kill_creativity.html
This video is about making sure that creativity can be a big change in the way that teachers are educating the children of America. Creativity is very important in helping children to learn because of the different learning styles of every child. Ken Robinson thinks that creativity should be a part of the learning way of schools.
Creativity can open up a child's mind to help them to learn new things and how a child will be able to understand what the teacher is trying to teach them.
Cecelia Gault interviews Sir Ken Robinson
http://blogs.scholastic.com/kidspress/2010/09/breaking-creative-myths.html
These videos are about why schools in other countries are doing better in education and why they have a lower drop out rate than the United States. What some of the conclusions came to were that people in other countries have a better way of engaging the attention of their students and by being passionate about what they do.
For a teacher trying to teach, being passionate about what you are trying to portray to your students can be one of the many ways to keep a students attention and by doing that it will allow students to learn in a better way.
Vicki Davis: Harness your students digital smarts
http://www.edutopia.org/digital-generation-teachers-vicki-davis-video
This video shows how Mrs. Davis is helping her students to learn by letting them use many different types of technology in her classroom and she has seen that this is helping them to learn. She is teaching them how to learn by learning about technology and software.
In todays society she thinks that learning about the many different types of technology will help the students to be better prepared for the society when they get out of school.

Mr. Winkle thought that this was a nice way of seeing that some things did not change. This was comforting to Mr. Winkle because he thought that even though he had been asleep for 100 years some ways of life had not changed.

Blog Assignment 1
My name is Alicia Robertson. I have lived in Oxford, Mississippi. I currently live in Mobile, Alabama. My major interests are teaching, scrapbooking, and making crafts. I have one brother and a sister. I am the oldest sibling. My mom and my dad have been there for me every step of the way since I decided that I wanted to be a teacher. I have worked with kids since I was sixteen years old, my first job being in a daycare. I also work with kids at my church. I want to enter the field of education because I want to see the joy on a child's face when they feel like they are important and that they can do anything that they set their mind to.
Some of my passions include working with kids in any way that I can, scrapbooking, and making personal crafts. I am very creative, and love to work with my creativity to make things better. I love going on vacations with my family because every one of the trips brings back a special memory. My favorite vacation was our trip to Orlando. Our family went to Disney World, Sea World, The Holy Land, and Blizzard Beach Water Park. This was my favorite vacation because our family has always talked about going to Disney so to actually go and see Disney was amazing. My family means everything to me, and without them, I would not be at the place where I am today.
